What Is Data?

Everything is data, if you squint hard enough

quintillion bytes of data created every day

  • Data is just information recorded in a structured way
  • Your alarm time, steps walked, coffee count - all data
  • Data can be numbers (quantitative) or labels (qualitative)
  • Data becomes useful when it's collected consistently - one measurement means nothing, patterns mean everything

Remember: If you can write it down, it's data. You're already a data collector.
